0Denmark wins the Copa Jerez 2013
The Copa Jerez or Jerez Cup is a competition for teams of a chef and sommelier from the same restaurant. It is organised by the Consejo Regulador, the institute dedicated to the protection and promotion of sherry wines. It takes place every two years, culminating in the international final in Jerez. In 2013 the 5th edition was held today, October 15.
The main purpose of course is to show off the numerous possibilities of combining sherry with food. The chef and sommelier teams prepare three courses, each designed to go well with a specific sherry. Being Belgian, I have to mention the fact that our team was sent by 3* Michelin restaurant Hertog Jan in Bruges, one of my favourite restaurants in the country. They won two awards, for the combination of main course + sherry as well as the award for the best sommelier.
Denmark is the winner of the main “best chef” award and wins the overall competition, congratulations! After all, sherry is the big winner in this competition, so let me tell you that the winning team from restaurant Clou combined their dishes with Fino Valdivia, Amontillado Barbadillo and the Pedro Ximénez VORS from Bodegas Tradición.
