Aurora Pedro Ximénez (Yuste)

Not much information is given about this Pedro Ximénez Aurora. It is aged by Bodegas Yuste in the their Los Ángeles cellar in the upper district of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

It is part of the Aurora series (named after the widow Aurora Ambrosse Lacave) which also includes an Amontillado, Oloroso Aurora and Manzanilla. The label features an illustration by Gaspar Camps.

Pedro Ximénez Aurora (15%, Yuste, 50 cl)

Nose: classic PX with raisins, figs and dates as well as plenty of fresh honey and brown sugar. Also a refreshing minty note, making this more light on its feet than some other Pedro Ximénez wines. Mixed fruit compote and peaches on syrup as well.

Mouth: very silky, with a light acidity that keeps the extreme sweetness in check. Hints of raisins and chocolate, some sweet coffee, dried apricots and caramel. Cinnamon pastry. Very light hints of candied ginger and After Eight in the finish.

Availability: around € 13. I found mine at Espavino.

Summary: A good medium-aged Pedro Ximénez that is velvety yet quite fresh and elegant, nicely balancing the heavy sweetness. Considering the price, this is really not a bad choice.
